One of the many services provided by the SPSV counseling center is a counselor dedicated to college counseling. Working in concert with advisors from the junior and senior advisories, the college counselor meets with all juniors and seniors to assist them with planning for college. The counselor helps students identify the qualities of an ideal college and then together the counselor and student find colleges that match. After identifying ideal colleges, the college counselor works with students on the admissions process. The college counselor provides students with access to Family Connection, a valuable online college planning tool.
For students who are not seniors, the counseling department provides academic counseling. In keeping with our mission, each student has one counselor to provide guidance over their four years. Students receive assistance in making scheduling decisions based on their interests and long range plans as well as a place to turn for academic help. The counseling center provides access to tutors and a wide range of academic services.
In addition to college and academic counseling, SPSV counselors also provide personal counseling. If necessary, referrals can be provided for outside resources. In all counseling services counselors are bound by the professional and legal guidelines established for the profession including confidentiality and legal reporting of specific incidents.
