SPSV Choral Groups win big in Seattle
The SPSV Choristers and Vocal Jazz groups had a very successful tour of Seattle during the Easter Break. Every group earned a top rating of Gold. Our vocal jazz groups finished in 1st place (Thursday Jazz) and 2nd place (Monday Jazz) in their division, while Choristers took 1st place in the mixed concert choir 1A division. Our Gold ratings earned us an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall in the Festival of Gold!
Our choirs also won two prestigious awards. We took home the Outstanding Choral Group Award for receiving the highest individual score amongst all participating choirs. Choristers earned the highest score, and received it from Karen Fulmer, President of the American Choral Directors Association, who happened to be one of three judges at our event. Our school also took home the Sweepstakes Award for Best Choral Program. We earned this by having the highest combined score from the judges. This means that our school was the top finisher amongst the nine high schools that participated in the choir competition, regardless of division and size of the school. This is the first time we won the Sweepstakes Award since 2001.
In addition to all these awards, SPSV also earned the Spirit of Seattle Award. This was given to the group that demonstrated the best character during the entire tour. It was awarded to the group that the festival organizers saw as "most honorable" and "most professional". From their courteous behavior towards festival and hotel staff, and their willingness to help out in any situation, to the way they handled themselves when things went wrong during our tour, our musicians were model students at the festival. According to the festival host, "It is very rarely that we would give [the Spirit of Seattle award] to a group that actually won everything else." But the site directors really talked us up to the festival host, and thought that we stood out from everyone else. That is why WorldStrides Heritage gave us their most prestigious award.
SPSV adopts iPads for classroom technology
St. Patrick - St Vincent High School fully understands that integrating technology into classroom instruction means more than teaching basic computer skills and software programs in a separate computer class. Effective integration of technology must happen across the curriculum through active engagement, collaborative work, and frequent interaction and feedback by teachers and peers.
Effective technology integration is achieved when technology supports curricular goals. Therefore, to support the curriculum in 2013-14, SPSV is requiring its families with students in Grades 9-12 to purchase an iPad for use in the classroom. For additional information please see the FAQ. For information on iPad pricing, please go to the Apple Store for Education. .
Families interested in more information about optional insurance through Worth Ave. Group are encouraged to look at their insurance application for pricing for SPSV families.
